Pond Liner
If you want to build a backyard pond or pond less water feature that will give you years of enjoyment and durability, making sure that you purchase a good quality pond liner should be a top priority.
If you’re looking for flexibility, ease of installation, easy repair and endless design possibilities then your best bet is to purchase a Firestone EPDM liner. A 45 millimeter thickness is recommended for use. The rubber product is also safe for use with fish and aquatic plants.
When you get ready to purchase your pond liner, make sure that you measure properly in order to get the right size for the hole you have prepared. You will not want to cut yourself short and is always a good idea to have a larger liner then a smaller one. When measuring for a liner you will want the longest part of the length, longest part of the width and the maximum depth.
The formulas to remember when you’re figuring out the total liner size are two equations. One is adding the max. length plus twice the depth plus two feet. The other is the max. width plus twice the depth plus two feet. The two feet is for the overlaps which will give you about a foot extra on each side. This overlap is extremely important as this is so your liner will not slip down causing water to go under it and also will enable you to put slate or anything else you plan on using to keep your liner in place.
Don’t forget to order pond underlayment when ordering your liner. It can be great protection against rocks, roots and other various items that might be found in the ground.
Installing pond liners is much easier than you might think. It can be a one person job but much easier with two people especially with larger liners. When installing your pond liner after laying down your underlayment you will want to ensure that your liner is properly positioned over the hole evenly with approximately the same amount of overlap all the way around. Double-check from every angle and make sure the liner is where you need it to be. Don’t be afraid and get in pond and smooth the liner with your hands correcting creases and making folds to fit the contour of your pond. You won't be able to make adjustments or move it once you start filling it with water without empting it again.
When you take the time to measure properly and invest in a good-quality EPDM liner, you are ensuring that you will be able to enjoy your new pond for many years to come. Firestone 45 mil EPDM pond liner can withstand direct sunlight and temperatures to -40 degrees. And has a 20 year warranty. |
