Barley Products

Barley products have long been used as a natural and very effective pond water treatment. Barley controls algae and microbes without harming animals, fish or humans by buffering the water's pH and optimizing water chemistry. Available in several sizes of pellets and extract, there is a barley product for any size pond.

Barley straw pellets are much easier to use than bales, pillows and pads. They can be put into a mesh bag and placed in flowing water such as a waterfall. They can also be used in conjunction with a skimmer or other device which contains them. It is best to begin treatment in the spring, before water temperature reaches 50 degrees, and can be used with other bacterial and enzyme cleaners for maintenance throughout the year.

Barley straw extract is the easiest of the barley products to use. You simply measure the amount of extract needed based on the instructions and add to the water, preferably near a waterfall (if present). Maintaining optimum water conditions just doesn't get much easier!
