Pond Liner Repair

There may be a time where you will need to repair your liner. Good news is that there are pond liner repair kits that have patches, quick prime and a roller to get the job fixed. The downside is that no pond liner repair job can be completed underwater. Regardless of the type of patch or composition of the liner material, the leak will have to be exposed, cleaned, and dried before repairs can occur.

The cleaned and dried leak site must be roughened to provide a gripping surface for the patch. This is usually accomplished with an abrasive pad included with the repair kit. Once the surface of the liner has been appropriately roughened, a special primer is applied. This primer contains a volatile solvent that must be allowed to evaporate, or flash off, prior to the application of the patch. Each patch has a paper backing that must be removed prior to application. Once the backing is remove, a chemical coating is exposed that will bond with the residue of the primer on the liner to create a waterproof seal. After the bond has cured, water can be returned to the pond.
